China’s First Breakthrough in CCUS Pump Technology – Empowering a Greener Future

As the world races toward carbon neutrality, Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) has emerged as a critical solution. By capturing industrial CO₂emissions and injecting them deep underground into oil reservoirs, this technology not only permanently stores carbon but also enhances oil recovery—effectively “locking away carbon while squeezing out more oil.” It’s a win-win: reducing greenhouse gas emissions while creating economic value, making it a key driver of the green energy transition.

The Heart of CCUS: High-Pressure CO₂ Pumps

In CO₂ transport and injection, high-pressure pumps play a vital role. However, CO₂’s unique properties—easy vaporization, poor lubrication, and ultra-low temperatures—pose major challenges for standard centrifugal pumps:

  • Tricky Medium Characteristics: CO₂ is easily vaporized under high pressure and low temperature, resulting in the risk of cavitation. Adding to Poor lubricity, the pump faces a big challenge of wear.
  • Operational Instability: Small flow rates lead to vibrations, reducing efficiency and increasing energy waste.
  • Safety & Reliability Risks: Seals can leak at low temperatures, while materials become brittle, raising fracture risks.
  • Costly Maintenance: The traditional maintenance methods are inefficient, difficult to disassemble assembly on site, and the long-term costs are rising.

Innovative Solutions of Longgang Pump Industry

  • Smart vaporization-control impeller design, using self-lubricating materials;
  • Additional design pressure, material selection and verification, and safety and reliability analysis;
  • Modular “quick-service” engineering. We take into account aspects such as easy disassembly and assembly, convenient maintenance, and saving on-site space, so as to reduce the burden of on-site maintenance in the later stage and thereby enhance the user experience.
